Green Highways Partnership

What Makes A Highway Green?

This is the question on everybody's minds.  Green Highways, however, are not defined by a list of requirements.  Green Highways are defined by an effort to leave the project area "better than before" through community partnering, environmental stewardship, and transportation network improvements in safety and functionality.  What this means differs from project to project, and location to location.  Therefore, the Green Highways Partnership discusses characteristics of a Green Highway.  GHP partners have developed the following list of characteristics that apply to Green Highways.  To develop a Green Highway, partners would take these characteristics, plus many others, into consideration and implement what they found to be relevant and feasible for their transportation project.

The list of characteristics is by no means complete; if you would like to contribute your own ideas for Green Highways characteristics, contact Densie Rigney or Dominique Lueckenhoff.
