Numerous government agencies, private foundations, NGO's, and other organizations value progress within the realms of transportation and the environment; many have made funds available to help further Green Highways goals. Listed here are opportunities for which partners may be eligible:
EPA Targeted Watersheds Grant Program Application Deadline: Nov 15, 2006 (passed, but awarded on annual cycle) The Targeted Watersheds Grant Program (TWG) promotes successful community-based approaches and management techniques to protect and restore the nation's waters. The program is an integral approach to the Agency's watershed approach to clean water by providing assistance to watershed groups and service provider organizations working to protect and restore watersheds valued for fishing, swimming, drinking and other important uses.

Regional Priorities Grant Program Application Deadline: Dec 15, 2006 This is a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the U.S. EPA Region 8 office’s fiscal year 2007 Regional Priorities Grant Program. The purpose of this RFP is to announce the availability of funding from five Region 8 grant programs for projects that are to be conducted within the boundaries of Region 8. National Estuarine Research Reserve Land Acquisition and Construction Program FY07 Application Deadline: Dec 31, 2006 The Estuarine Reserves Division (ERD) of NOAA is soliciting proposals from the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) for land acquisition and construction funding. The National Estuarine Research Reserve system consists of estuarine areas of the United States and its territories which are designated and managed for research and educational purposes. Each reserve within the system is chosen to represent different biogeographic regions and to include a variety of ecosystem types. Through the funding of designated reserve agencies and universities to undertake land acquisition and construction projects that support the NERRS purpose, NOAA will strengthen protection of key land and water areas; enhance long-term protection of the area for research and education, and provide for facility and exhibit construction. This notice sets forth funding priorities, selection criteria, and application procedures. The program priorities for this opportunity support NOAA's mission support goal of: Ecosystems - Protect, Restore, and Manage Use of Coastal and Ocean Resources through Ecosystem-Based Management. AmeriCorps State and Territories Competitive Grants
Application Deadline: Jan 25, 2007 Purpose of GrantsAmeriCorps State Competitive Grants: These grants are awarded to organizations that are nominated to participate in a nationwide competition by Governor-appointed state commissions. Grantees receive funds to pay the members’ living allowance and support program costs. For more than a decade, the Corporation for National and Community Service—through its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve programs—has mobilized a new generation of engaged citizens. This year, more than 1.8 million individuals of all ages and backgrounds will serve through these programs. They will help thousands of national and community nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, schools, and local agencies meet local needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security, and other critical areas. Highways for LIFE Application Deadline: Jan 30, 2007 The purpose of the Highways for LIFE program is to accelerate the rate of adoption of innovations and technologies, thereby, improving safety and highway quality while reducing congestion caused by construction. Assistance is provided to State Transportation Agencies as an incentive to use and/or evaluate new proven innovative technologies and practices in the construction of highways.The proposed project must construct, reconstruct, or rehabilitate a route or connection on a Federal-Aid highway eligible for assistance under Chapter 1 of Title 23, United States Code and the project must use innovative technologies, manufacturing processes, or contracting methods that improve safety, reduce congestion due to construction, and improve quality. Environmental Sustainability Grant
Application Deadline: September 15, 2007
The Environmental Sustainability program supports engineering research with the goal of promoting sustainable engineered systems that support human well-being and that also are compatible with sustainsing natural (environmental) systems, which provide ecological services vital for human survival. The long-term viability of natural capital is critical for many areas of human endeavor, including agriculture, industry, and tourism. Research in Environmental Sustainability considers long time horizons and incorporates contributions from the social sciences and ethics. This program supports engineering research that seeks to balance society's need to provide ecological protection and maintain stable economic conditions. Research is encouraged to advance the next generation of water and wastewater treatment that will decrease material and energy use, consider new paradigms for delivery of services, and promote longer life of engineered systems.
